Agricultural Development in India



Introduction:-



In the words professor  M.P. Todaro, "If the process of economic growth is to be given and to self sustained it must begin with the rural areas in general and agriculture in particular."

Agriculture contributes 15.1% of the national income of India and it offer livelihood to nearly 49% of it's total population. It is the backbone of Indian economy.


In the word of Gunnar Myrdal, "it is in the agriculture sector that the battle for long term economic development of India will be own or lost."


Meaning:-




The word agriculture is derived from two letter words 'agri' (implying (field)) and 'culture' (implying (cultivation)). Webster dictionary states,"agriculture is the art or science of production of crops and livestock on a farm. The purpose of agriculture is to produce wage goods, such as food grains, milk, vegetable, pulses, raw materials etc.
